Windows Tips & Tricks
Topic:
Copying Cliptures KoolKat catalogs to your hard disk.
Tip:
The Cliptures KoolKat catalogs are designed so that you can use them on the Cliptures CD discs without having to install anything onto your hard disk. You can however copy them to your hard disk if you like, and if you have the space. (Please be aware that some of the catalogs may be over 12MB in size!) The Cliptures-KoolKat catalogs actually have a copy of the color, WMF(High) versions of the images stored in the catalog. If you copy one of the catalogs to your hard disk, you will not have to put the Cliptures CD in your CD drive when you want to use that particular Cliptures volume. (This only applies to the color, WMF(High) version of the Cliptures images.)
Please note: Although this tip works, there are enough variables from computer to computer that we cannot do tech support on this. You're on your own!
To copy a single Cliptures KoolKat catalog to your hard disk:
- Insert a Cliptures CD into your CD drive.
- From the Windows desktop, double-click on the My Computer’ icon.
- In the My Computer’ window that opens, double-click the icon for your CD drive.
- In the window that opens up for your CD drive, click one time on the icon for the _KOOLKAT folder so that it is selected.
- From the Edit menu for the CD window, select the Copy command.
- Close the window for the CD.
- In the My Computer’ window , double click on the icon for your hard disk.
- In the window that opens up for your hard drive, select the Paste command from the Edit menu. This will put a copy of the _KOOLKAT folder on your hard disk.
That's it!
The _KOOLKAT folder has 6 files in it. The Cliptures-KoolKat catalog file is the one named: CLIP00KK.KKC (The actual file will have a volume number like 06, or 31 instead of the "00". For example: The catalog file for Cliptures Volume 33 is CLIP33KK.KKC.) The other files in the folder: CLIPTURE.EXE, CLLNGENU.DLL, CLPROOF.DLL, FMENGINE.DLL, FMOLE.DLL, FMTOOLS.DLL, and FM_KKC.DLL are the "engine" files for the Cliptures-KoolKat catalogs. In order for KoolKat to work, all 6 of the files must remain together in the same folder.
Copying multiple Cliptures KoolKat catalogs to your hard disk:
If you plan on copying more than one Cliptures-KoolKat catalog to your hard disk, you should rename the _KOOLKAT folder for each one after you have copied it to you hard disk, and before you copy the next one. Otherwise, when you do the second one, it will replace the first one. The name doesn't matter as long as you can remember it, and you keep all of the files in the folder together and separate from any other set of catalog files.
