Windows Technical Support

.:| Back |:.

Important Note

This tech support topic applies to the old Cliptures floppy disks and versions of Windows prior to Windows XP. We have not sold the floppy disk versions of any Cliptures volumes in well over 5 years and no longer support them. We do have some customers still running older versions of Windows 3 and Windows 95. The information below may work if you have an older computer system and an old version of PrintShop. We continue to keep this information in our tech support archives in case it is of benefit to anyone but we no longer even have systems old enough to do any further testing or tech support for these older systems and software.

Question

I upgraded to Print Shop Deluxe Ensemble III and now some of my older Cliputres volumes will not do a "Print Shop Install".

Answer

With the introduction of the Print Shop Ensemble III program, Broderbund changed the name of the program to PSEWIN.EXE. Versions of the Cliptures installer prior to 9/1/96 did not know to look for the PSEWIN.EXE file name. The Cliptures libraries still work with the Ensemble II I, you just can't use the "Install for Print Shop" installation option.

Solution

You can do a manual installation of the Cliptures volume(s), or, you can order one of the new Cliptures CD discs.

Note: With the release of PrintShop 6 (which does not use PrintShop libraries), Cliptures volumes are no longer available in the PrintShop Library formats. Cliptures volumes are now available individually on CD discs. All of the graphics are in individual graphic files. They are still compatible with ALL Windows versions of PrintShop but they are now also much easier to use with other programs too!

Manual Installation: It is pretty easy to install the Cliptures libraries in with the new Ensemble 3. Here is how to do it:

Note: This only works if you have installed the Ensemble III using Print Shop's default directories. If you "customized" the names when you installed the Ensemble III, this will not work.)

1. Use Windows Explorer (Go to START -> PROGRAMS -> WINDOWS EXPLORER) to verify that under the "Program Files" folder (directory) there is a folder (sub-directory) called "The Print Shop Ensemble III" and that inside of that folder there is a folder (sub-directory) called "Libs". This is how the Ensemble 3 sets up when it is installed.

2. Run the Cliptures installer. (Insert the Cliptures disk. Go to START -> RUN, Type in A:\INSTALL and click the OK button.)

3. From the Cliptures main installation menu, select the 3rd option: "Install Cliptures library only". You will get a warning message saying you must have the Print Shop or the Exporter installed. Click the OK button on this dialog.

4. If you have more than 1 hard disk, the installer will ask you to select a drive to install the library onto. If this applies to you, select the appropriate drive. (Normally the "C" drive.) If you only have 1 hard disk, the installer will skip asking you to select a drive.

5. Next the installer will ask you to "Select and installation directory" and show the default setting of: C:\Clipture. You should change this to read:

(If you're using Windows 3.1)--> C:\PSEWIN\LIBS

(If you're using Windows 95)--> C:\PROGRA~1\THEPRI~1\LIBS

Note: The symbol before each of the 1's above are "tilde" symbols. They are not dashes. The tilde symbol is located to the left of the "1" key on your keyboard. (Use the shift key when entering it.)

6. After typing in the installation directory exactly as above, click on the OK button. The Cliptures library will be installed in Print Shop's "LIBS" directory.

That's it!
