Macintosh Technical Support
Question
I am trying to print some of the MacGallery graphics on my ImageWriter II printer with a color ribbon but the images will not print in color or the colors come out weird.
Answer
The color palettes used in the MacGallery graphics contain more colors than an ImageWriter printer can interpret. This problem is unique to some dot matrix printers with color ribbons.
The only solution we have come up with is for users to get a copy of the shareware program ColorWriter. With this program, you can open a MacGallery color image and the program will dither the image into a set of colors that the ImageWriter printer can recognize. We have tested MacGallery images converted with this program in ClarisWorks with pretty good results.
ColorWriter is a shareware program available from many Macintosh user groups, America Online and also through the internet. The author of ColorWriter requests that you send him a token shareware fee if you try out the program and decide to keep it.
