Scrapbook Ideas for Halloween
Pumpkin Patch
This scrapbook page combines several of the techniques used in some of the other scrapbook samples. It's a little more involved than some of the other layouts, but you can do it!
The ghost image and text are printed out with a colored background. The page is trimmed and attached to a colored background sheet. The pumpkins are printed, trimmed, and attached to the bottom of the whole layout.
Materials:
- Cliptures: Pumpkins from Cliptures #15 Fun Accents 2, Ghost from Cliptures #32 Fun Accents 3
- Paper: White for printing layout and pumpkins (2 sheets), green for background sheet, and orange for photo frames.
- Scrapbooking glue or adhesive.
- Craft knife and cutting mat for cutting out images.
- Paper cutter or straight edge ruler, craft knife, and cutting mat for trimming inner layout sheet.
- Decorative edge scrapbook scissors for cutting photo frames.
Directions:
1. Start a new document in your layout program. Change the background color of the layout to dark purple or violet. (If your program won't let you change the background color of the page, see Adding a Background Color.)
2. Import the ghost from Cliptrues Vol. 32 into your document. Scale it to about 8 3/4" tall.
3. Position the ghost in the lower right corner of the page so that the bottom of the tombstone is at the bottom of the layout. (The grass at the bottom of the tombstone will actually be off the printed part of the page.)
4. Add whatever text you like to the layout.
5. Use some temporary shapes in your layout program to help get the ghost and your text all positioned properly. (See Temporary Shapes.)
6. After all the elements are positioned, delete any temporary shapes you used.
7. Print the layout on white paper and trim 1/2" from each edge of the paper.
8. Attach the printed and trimmed page to the background sheet with scrapbook adhesive.
Now it's time to do the pumpkin patch!
9. Start a new document in you layout program. Set the document so that it prints in landscape mode (wide) instead of tall. (You need to do this because the final row of pumpkins will be a little too wide to print on a tall page.)
10. Import the pumpkins image (the one with 3 pumpkins) from Cliptures Vol. 15 and scale the image to about 3 " wide. Move the image near the left side of the layout.
11. Duplicate the pumpkins image and move it to the right from the first pumpkins so that it overlaps the first set of pumpkins just a little. (See Duplicating Images tip.)
12. Duplicate the second set of pumpkins and move them to the right so that they overlap the second set just a little.
13. Adjust the placement of all 3 sets of pumpkins so that the bottoms of all 3 images are aligned and so that the width of the whole row of pumpkins is 8" wide.
14. Print the pumpkin row on white paper.
15. Using a craft knife and cutting mat, cut out the pumpkin row from the layout page.
Note: Leave an even amount of white space around the image when you cut it out. This is much easier than trying to trim right up to the edges and it creates a nice design too!
16. Attach the row of pumpkins to the bottom of the layout with scrapbook adhesive.
Now you can add the photos!
17. Trim your photos to their final sizes.
18. Cut the frames for the photos with decorative edge scissors.
19. Arrange and attach the frames and photos to the layout page with scrapbook adhesive.
That's it!
