Birthday Scrapbook Page Idea

Happy Birthday

This scrapbook layout uses a full 8 1/2 x 11 sheet for the background. The Cliptures images are imported into a layout program and scaled to their various sizes. The layout is printed and the images are cut out from the printed sheet. The images, photo frames and photos are then layered on the background paper with some elements overlapping others.

Note: Because the images are cut out from the printed paper, their positioning in the layout program isn't particularly important. What is important is to scale them to the size you want and to arrange them so that they can all be printed out on a single sheet of paper. (See Paper Saver tip.)

Figure 1 (at lower right) shows how the images were arranged on a single page for printing.

Materials:

- Cliptures: All images from Cliptures Vol. 42 Birthdays!

- Paper: White for printing images, blue for background sheet, dark blue and red paper for the photo frames.

- Scrapbooking glue or adhesive.

- Craft knife and cutting mat for cutting out the images.

- Decorative edge scrapbook scissors for cutting photo frames.

Directions:
1. Start a new document in your layout program.

2. Import the candle from Vol. 42 into your document. Scale the image to about 7 3/4" tall.

3. Import the Happy Birthday image and rotate it 90 degrees. "Happy Birthday" image was rotated so it could be scaled larger than 7 1/2". Scale the rotated image to about 8 1/4" tall.

4. Import the birthday hat and scale it to about 2 1/2" tall.

5. Import the balloon and scale it to about 3" tall.

6. Arrange all of the elements so they can be printed on a single piece of paper. (See Figure 1)

7. Print the layout page. Save paper and color ink! (See Proofing tip.)

8. Using a craft knife and cutting mat, cut the images from the layout page.

Note: Leave an even amount of white space around the images when you cut them out. This is much easier than trying to trim right up to the edges and creates a nice design too!

9. Trim your photos to their final sizes.

8. Cut frames for the photos with decorative edge scissors.

10. Arrange and attach all of the elements to the background sheet with scrapbook adhesive.
